When there is a critical need for educational reform, someone will rise to fill that need. According to the 2023 National Educational Statistics in math and reading among 8th grade students, it is sadly obvious that the USA has passed the point of a critical need and we are now in an Educational Crisis. We at Math Brain Doctor are pleased to bring new and revised solutions to the forefront.
Desert Sands Unified School District field tested Ms. TC’s math program in four different elementary schools for Grade 3 exclusively. “It is a wonderful moment to see a child display accomplishment of a skill and beg for more input.” The program was described as providing, “our students with the means to learn the basic computation skills of multiplication and at the same time develop self-esteem. The students consistently attained scores of 90 to 100% on all post tests, including tests which involved reading problems.”
The Los Angeles County Office of Education, Five Star Educational Research division provided a thorough review of the math program. The results were even further validated at a higher level. “I am very pleased with the results you have achieved. Your approach where you elicit interaction from the students and their teachers as you present your materials seems to work very well.”
The data indicates that the math program, “material has been very successful with minority students and students from lower socio-economic homes. This is of great importance to many of our school districts in California as well as across the nation. Our enrollment in Los Angeles County is 1.3 million students of which over 70% are minority children with diverse ethnic, cultural, and economic backgrounds and the percentage is growing rapidly.”
Cielo Vista introduced the math series at the second grade level. “All of these students have learned far beyond the expected second grade curriculum in math. Most of them know the basic multiplication and division math facts through twelve and many can calculate these facts faster than our sixth grade students. Not only have they learned their math facts but they have learned to love math.” The level of confidence in their students has produced additional unforeseen positive outcomes, “The change in attitude of this class has been dramatic. They think they can do anything!”
Lincoln School in Palm Desert, California performed a pilot study of Ms. TC’s math series at the third grade level. “This multi-sensory approach to teaching multiplication facts was well received by the children. They were highly motivated by the fact that the lessons are combined with an upbeat energizing music.” Furthering optimal levels for student outcomes in their grades, “scores of 90% and above achieved by the students at the end of the pilot program. And, to find a program that totally involves students and generates such enthusiasm was truly a bonus!.”
Palm Springs Unified School District also utilized the math program at the second grade level. “In all cases, the confidence and accuracy with which the students applied the problem solving techniques,” throughout the math series,” was phenomenal. That single demonstration has proven to me that ‘sensory mnemonics’ has its place in making academic achievement possible.”
